Live and Not Just Survive

I have watched a movie entitled Wall-E. It's a movie about the earth filled with trash. The humans decided to go to the outer space so that they could have the chance to clean and cultivate the earth. But they failed. So they decided to stay in space and live there. They allowed the robots to control their environment, like controlling the artificial sun, security and other things. 700 years later the humans survived with an artificial environment. They have forgotten how to walk, because since there childhood they have been sitting or lying on their chair and bed. The robots are there to assist them in everything they do. Like if they want water, they will just call a robot to do this for them. They have been like so lazy. They even use a computer to talk to the person beside them. It's like all the interactions happening on that ship was through computer. So sophisticated and advance technology. But because they have been doing this since there childhood they have not noticed there environment were all artificial.

One day as part of the protocol the ship sends a robot to planet earth to check if there have been signs of life and surprisingly the robot returned with a specimen of a plant. It was the first time that the captain heard the word earth and has seen a plant, because he has never been there. He was so curious and asked so many things about the earth to the computer. He asked about the land, sea, farming and many other things. He saw picture of the earth and the things that were in it. He was so amazed and wanted to live there. He knew that he needs to go there and do something about the earth. But the auto pilot robot was stopping him, but he was so determined. He did everything he could so that they will be able to go to earth. He said something like this "I don't want to survive, I want to live". These few words took my attention, that despite the comfort they have in the ship, he and the people was unhappy, they don't want just surviving they wanted to live.

I and maybe some of you can relate with these words. For nearly three years I have been doing with the same things. I walk up, eat breakfast, work, eat lunch, work, eat dinner and sleep. Actually there is nothing wrong about these cycles. I am sure all of us do the same cycle also. But what’s wrong is if you do not love your job. When you’re doing things every day but you’re not enjoying. When you’re just doing the things that you are told to do, when you are not able to decide for yourself, when you don't have enough time to spend for yourself and your family and we don’t have much choice about life. Then we are just trying to survive. I know once in a while there will be times like this. But if it's everyday you’re doing these same thing and one day you will see a vision or a dream of a life you wanted to live with. I know you will be doing anything or everything to go and reach that dream. You will do the same thing the captain of the story did. You will not let anyone or anything else hinder you from reaching those dreams. Because for sure we all want to live and not just survive.
